Visakhapatnam: Academic leaders from universities and engineering colleges gathered in Visakhapatnam for a Google Cloud Academia Roundtable, bringing together representatives from higher education and the technology industry to discuss the changing landscape of education and employability.

The roundtable, attended by academic and industry stakeholders, focused on several emerging priorities for higher education institutions, including digital campuses, technology innovation in education, teaching and skilling, student employability, the future of jobs and campus management.

The discussions provided an opportunity for academic leaders to exchange perspectives on how technology can be integrated more effectively into university ecosystems. With digital transformation becoming an increasingly important part of higher education, institutions are exploring ways to use cloud technologies and other emerging tools to improve teaching, learning, administration and student engagement.

A key area of discussion was the changing relationship between education and employability. As technology continues to reshape industries and job roles, universities are under increasing pressure to ensure that students develop skills that are relevant to evolving workplace requirements. Industry–academia interactions such as the roundtable provide a platform for education leaders to understand these changing expectations and explore potential approaches to preparing students for the future.

The event also addressed skilling and the future of jobs, two areas that have become central to discussions around higher education and technology. Rapid developments in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other digital technologies are changing the nature of work across sectors, creating demand for continuous learning and industry-aligned skills.

The concept of the digital campus was another important theme. Digital transformation at universities extends beyond classroom technology and can involve campus management, academic processes, collaboration, student services and institutional technology infrastructure.

The roundtable brought together stakeholders including Training and Placement Officers (TPOs), university relations professionals, deans, directors, principals and other academic leaders. Their participation reflected the importance of involving multiple institutional functions when developing industry-oriented technology initiatives.

The event was associated with Google Cloud and Google for Education, with B. Mallesu acknowledging Google and Siddharth Dalwadi, along with academic leaders from participating universities and engineering colleges, for the discussions.

Such industry–academia forums are increasingly becoming important as higher education institutions navigate a period of rapid technological change. Rather than viewing technology solely as a classroom subject, universities are examining how it can become part of the broader institutional ecosystem.

The Visakhapatnam roundtable therefore served as a platform for conversations around digital transformation, technology-enabled education, employability and the future of work.

As Indian universities continue to adapt to changing technology and workforce requirements, continued dialogue between technology companies and academic institutions can provide opportunities to identify new approaches to skilling, innovation and campus transformation.

The Google Cloud Academia Roundtable in Visakhapatnam highlights the growing importance of such conversations in shaping how universities prepare students and institutions for an increasingly digital future.
